There's something magical about Taghazout. This little fishing village turned world-class surf spot has kept its authentic soul. Our late-afternoon walks there have become a ritual: the colourful façades take on orange hues, the mood is relaxed, and the sunset over the ocean is worth the trip on its own. We never tire of this unique atmosphere, a mix of Berber culture and surfer life.

Taghazout beach is an ideal playground for every level. For gear hire, we highly recommend Surf Berbère. The team helps you choose the right board and wetsuit, and gives you valuable practical advice. Our favourite spot? The beach in front of the luxury hotels, where the waves are perfect and it's less crowded.

Parking costs 15 dirhams. Honestly, we find it a bit much to charge for parking by the sea, especially for locals, but it's worth it. And just crossing the sand in the sunshine to reach the ocean, board under your arm, is already an intense feeling and a real moment of well-being.

Dates
20–23 October every year

If you can fit your trip in between 20 and 23 October, go for it! Taghazout's Surf Expo Festival is the event of the year. And good news: it falls right in the French school holidays. On the programme: surf sessions, free yoga and Pilates classes every day at 10:00, incredible viewpoints, local shopping, gear testing, creative workshops for children and, at the end of the day, dance parties with DJs and concerts. We met lovely people there and had unforgettable moments. The atmosphere is both family-friendly and festive, perfect for young and old alike.

A walk along the Agadir corniche is a must. We love strolling beside the ocean, enjoying the sea breeze, and finishing with a wander round the Marina. With its restaurants, shops and moored boats, it's the perfect place for a quiet end to the day, ice cream in hand, watching the fishermen come and go.

Souk Al Had: a dive into authentic Morocco

Place
Souk Al Had · Open in Maps
Opening hours
Daily except Monday, 8:00–18:00

You can't visit Agadir without a wander round Souk Al Had, one of the largest markets in Morocco. Spices in a thousand colours, sun-ripened fruit, local crafts, traditional clothing... It's an explosion of scents, colours and life. We recommend going in the morning to enjoy the cooler air and the bustle of the first shoppers. Don't hesitate to haggle with a smile, it's all part of the game!

The hammam: our secret spot

Place
Le Boudoir · Open in Maps
Price
150–300 dirhams depending on the treatments

After a day of surfing or sightseeing, nothing beats a good traditional hammam. We've tried several in Agadir, but Le Boudoir remains our absolute favourite. It's simple: we go back on every trip. The welcome is warm, the treatments authentic, and we come out feeling brand new, skin soft and mind at peace. A moment of relaxation we never miss.

A unique experience: a horse or camel ride

Place

Opening hours
Best time: 1 hour 30 minutes before sunset
Price
150–300 dirhams per person for 1 hour

For a moment out of time, we recommend a horse or camel ride at sunset along the shore. The slow pace, the sound of the waves, the fading golden light... It's a moment of pure magic, perfect for reconnecting with nature and making unforgettable family memories.

A day inland: Paradise Valley

Around thirty kilometres from Agadir, on the road to Imouzzer, Paradise Valley hides pools of clear water among the reeds and palm trees. You reach them along a path that follows the river. Once there: a tagine by the water and, for the children, the ride back up on a donkey. For us, it's well worth a day of the trip, especially if there's water: the level depends on the rainfall, and it's at its highest from February to April.

Between surf sessions in Taghazout, fragrant wanders through the souk, breathtaking sunsets and wellness rituals at the hammam, Agadir and Taghazout give us that lovely combination of authenticity and relaxation every time. It's a destination that appeals as much to thrill-seekers as to families looking for a change of scene and simplicity.

Our tips before you go

  • Seaside parking: bring some small change (15 dirhams on average). It's not expensive, but it can be frustrating when all you want is to get to the beach.
  • Best time to go: October for the Surf Expo Festival, but Agadir and Taghazout can be visited all year round thanks to their mild climate.
  • Surf gear hire: book with Surf Berbère for a professional service and quality advice.
  • GPS and navigation: all the Google Maps links open directly in the app to guide you easily.
